Three Toronto police officers are being charged with misconduct for allegedly mishandling calls for assistance at a North York shelter, where a woman was subsequently discovered dead in a room with her suspected killer during the previous summer.
The case, outlined in Notices of Hearing obtained by CP24, pertains to the events of June 29, 2023, involving constables Adam Yurkiw, Victor Lai, and Sivapragasam Sivachandrian. According to the documents, shelter staff initially contacted the police on June 28 around 9:30 p.m. regarding two individuals who refused to vacate the premises. However, police units were not available until the following day at 7:25 a.m., when Constable Sivachandrian and his partner responded. Sivachandrian, designated as the "coach officer," was overseeing his partner, who was newly appointed to the force.
