The Toronto Raptors encountered further setbacks as backup center Jontay Porter became embroiled in a gambling investigation, as confirmed by Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic late Monday.
The investigation, launched by the NBA, revolves around suspected irregularities in prop betting involving Porter. Rajakovic expressed surprise at the allegations and stated that the team would address the situation accordingly.
ESPN initially reported the investigation shortly before the Raptors' game against the Brooklyn Nets. The probe scrutinizes Porter's performance in games on January 26 and March 20, during which he made brief appearances before exiting due to injury or illness. Despite Porter's limited playing time in these games, he fell short of meeting prop-wager lines for points, rebounds, and three-pointers, prompting suspicion among bettors. Rajakovic emphasized his trust in player integrity but acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the situation.
